The Brief
Our M&E division Domino Mechanical and Electrical has built a long-term relationship with Roxy, providing 12 fit-out and refurbishments across the UK, as well as air conditioning and ventilation works for four of their King Pin Bowling centres. Roxy approached Domino for a full mechanical and electrical fit-out after acquiring a new building in Bristol, in July 2022, to turn into a leisure centre. Last year, they expanded into the floor below and appointed Domino M&E to convert the gym into an entertainment centre.
During stage one of the works in Bristol the team installed new ventilation units to the new building. Our team then returned in 2024 to carry out a full strip out of the gym and installed new air conditioning and ventilation. To save on additional costs the team was able to utilise the existing air handling unit within the building.
Some of the venues also required our team to work with the client to develop a new design that fit within their budget. Whilst working on the King Pin in Silverburn, Glasgow, our M&E team had to adapt the design to avoid the need for any crane lifts due to budget constraints. As a result of the team’s careful planning, they handed the project back to the client three weeks early.
The Challenges
Due to the city centre location of Roxy and King Pin venues, we have organised road closures in order to crane the ventilation equipment onto the roof of the building.
During works on the King Pin venue in Manchester Arndale shopping centre, organisation was key to its success because our teams had to decommission the existing equipment and organise for it to be removed and taken away safely, before installing the new equipment. It took 12 weeks to organise the road closure and work took place during the night to minimise disruption.
The Outcome
Our M&E division has delivered several successful projects for Roxy, on time and in budget across the UK from Edinburgh to Bristol.
